Memoir of a Geisha and pictures [Jun. 5th, 2005|09:21 pm]
[Current Mood |headache]

Aah, they should make Memoirs of a Geisha into a movie.

I haven't read a book in a while, especially a book that I can't put down.

I haven't finished it yet (but probably will soon), but after getting halfway through it, I started getting antsy about wondering what'd happen between Sayuri and the Chairman... I only skimmed through it as to not spoil the *entire* amount of pages remaining... but oi, it is a very good book. :D

I know it's written by an American author, but it should be translated into Japanese (if it hasn't already, ha), and directed by a Japanese, of course. :P The English subtitles will obviously be adapted from the book, haha. Wow, i'm lame.

This is probably from April, I don't remember, but this is Olivia with Hsiaokwai's father.

This was roughly 6 weeks ago, give or take some days, at a dinner his whole family went to shortly before they left for China (her paternal grandmother and grandfather).

This was sometime in April, this is Hsiaokwai's sister, Sunshine (Hsiaoshang or something like that) with Olivia.

Just to note, the past two Sundays (including today) he has taken it upon himself to do a makeover on me, and make me be a model, rofl. Both sets have me in pigtails, but the latter set, my hair is dyed a dark red (and a different outfit of course). I never thought I could look so photogenic, hahaha.

Set #2

It is being made into a movie ^^ But I heard they're "toning down" the geisha's makeup because Americans will think it's "scary" O_o

Olivia is very cute! And so is her mommy. :D

OMG, thanks for telling me! :D :D I'll have to search Google about it.

Toning down the geisha's makeup? Are you kidding me? The book is authentic about a geisha's life, why can't they be authentic with the makeup too? Gawd. x_x;

*pounces you* I am セクシー. *struts*

Ken Watanabe (the guy from The Last Samurai) is playing the Chairman, I think. Ziyi Zhang is playing Sayuri, which seemed odd to me because, eh.. she ain't Japanese. o.O

It says some Rob Marshall guy is directing. I'd prefer a Japanese director, but if I had to choose a Western one, I'd rather have Spielberg.

It doesn't say what language the movie will be in. Japanese, I would hopefully naturally presume? I'm sure Ziyi Zhang's English has much left to be desired. x_x;

He'd make a good Chairman, I wondered who might play him.

But geez, as soon as I saw the cast list, I flew into a rage when I saw Chinese actors casted for some roles, including the biggest ones. Ziyi Zhang as Sayuri? No way that would happen if I had any say. >_>;

She is very pretty, no question, but it's basically like saying "all Asian folks look alike" when they cast a Chinese woman for a Japanese role. :x

I think the only role that I'm satisfied with the person they chose for it, is the Chairman. ^^;;

Yeah, it seems i'm one of the few people who can tell Asian nationalities apart... Korean and Chinese definitely don't resemble Japanese, or the other way around. :x

lol, should I get mad that (I think) they casted a white girl as the young Pumpkin? :B

I like that look on you! Everything compliments everything... a very autumn color palette and I'm loving it. :) And look how cute Olivia is~

I can't wait for the movie to come out... sometime... it's about time the movie industry breaks out of this horrible "scary movie" genre!
